CEO Update

This new financial year has commenced with a gusto of opportunities being presented for us to share with our members.

However, lets first talk about membership and the consistently asked question of what’s in it for us?

Having such a diverse portfolio of membership to retain our relevance, saw the implementation new portfolios earlier this year.  They include:

  • Young People in Business: Casual meetups with like-minded young people meeting monthly. Next event is 1 September at Cuprum Distillery.
  • Geographe for Purpose: Creating an understanding of the ‘For Purpose’ business community. An initiative is about to be launched, ‘Walk a Day in My Shoes’ where we will open for EOI to spend ½ a day in each other’s businesses.
  • Women in Business: Meetups involve any woman wishing to connect with other women.
  • SW Leaders: A 12-month Leadership Program that is at no cost to participants. This is open to all businesses to encourage their employees to join us on an exciting journey. Mentors and Mentees will be paired and announced at our launch event late September. Applications for the 2023/2024 have opened, click here for further details.
  • Greater Geographe Development: This is fulfilling our regional focus in Bunbury Geographe with strong relationships across the four local governments. We continue to build awareness and connect opportunities to assist with building regional business capability.

Being a member with us gives your business an entire suite of services from CCIWA to access.  This includes:

If you do not know your dedicated CCIWA member number please ask one of our team for assistance on 08 9791 2292.

This year is the first time we have been involved with designing a series of workshops for Future Skills with the intention of shared learning from Educators and Industry in the same room. On the 15 August, our first of five of the series is the Retail, Hospitality and Tourism sector.  Educators have been invited to attend along with Industry representatives. This initiative is designed for everyone, not just our members, as we realise the importance of capturing as many participants as possible.

Upcoming Future Skills series include:

o 12 Sept - Agriculture

o 12 Oct - Resources, Mining & Energy

o 24 Oct - Construction and Manufacturing

o 7 Nov - Health & Social Assistance

Bunbury Geographe Economic Alliance are partnering with us to help project manage the series. We have organised a dedicated facilitator and report writer to ensure we have outcomes for all to read and learn from, what we can do to improve skilling our workforce as a collective stakeholder group.

Excitedly we have the Minister for Small Business, Agriculture and Forestry, Hon Jackie Jarvis, visiting us on the 25 August along with the Chief Economist from CCIWA, Aaron Morey to discuss the economic outlook for the South West. Aaron is super excited to return to his hometown of Bunbury. We're looking forward to having him and Jackie share with our business community further on the insights shared in the latest CCIWA Economic Outlook on higher operating costs affecting business confidence. Event tickets will be released in the coming days.

In conclusion, please remember we are here to help. Whether you need to be connected to business advice or would like to share a concern. My door is open.

Have a great start to the new financial year.

Julie.
