Kaya!
Welcoming in October and the beginning of Kambarang the season of birth.
Kambarang is the fifth season in the Noongar Calendar running from October to November. While we are still seeing some cold and wet conditions, there are longer daylight hours and a crispness in the air as the warmer weather draws closer. There is a colour explosion on our local landscape with native blossoms colouring our gardens, walking tracks and open spaces.
Looking back on the month of September the BGCCI was a buzz of activity. The Chamber takes great pleasure in providing a range of events for our members and local business community including lunch and learns, informational sessions and workshops, jobs fairs and forums. This month the Bunbury Geographe Chamber hosted or cohosted 6 events including the State Budget Breakfast and the South West Future Jobs and Skills Forum. We provide these services to our community to ensure that there is access to quality information and networking.
BGCCI in partnership with Bunbury Geographe Economic Alliance and South West Chambers of Commerce hosted the inaugural South West Future Jobs and Skills Forum on the 28 September at the BREC. The event featured 58 businesses, industry and education exhibitors, with 781 attendees and delivered 9 keynote speeches from local and national thought leaders. The event focused on the changing jobs and skills landscape as a consequence of changes and advancements in technology, innovation and artificial intelligence leading towards the 4th industrial revolution.
With the regional LGA Council elections and the Bunbury Mayoral elections taking place over the next few weeks it’s important to note the seriousness of our responsibility as the business community to place your vote. Where applicable as a representative of our community, I call on you to make sure that you vote in these upcoming elections. The leadership we elect within the region have the potential to take us forward into a new era. We are on the precipice of some great things within the region and the individuals that we elect now, will need to provide the strategic leadership and insight to take us forward and make this region even greater. Please ensure you make the time to vote.
Our September Business After Hours event was hosted by Earth 2 Ocean. It was great to hear about the brilliant products and services they provide to the wide range and extensive list of local businesses as well as emergency services and government bodies. Over more than 20 years of operating in the SW, Earth 2 Ocean have developed its reputation, experience and knowledge as a major supplier for land and marine communication as well as developing new and innovative technologies in that space. Â A big thank you to Chris Dickie and his team for hosting us onsite at their Davenport office and workshop.

The BGCCI is committed to ensuring that the services, events and networking opportunities that it provide continues to evolve and stay relevant with the needs of our community. Recognising that we are a community of people who need flexible access to information I am exploring how we integrate more digital options for informational resources. With a focus on all things digital over the months of October and November, you will see the Chamber presenting a range of information sessions, seminars and services available to small business in the digital space. While some of these will be in person, we will also be introducing podcasts and online video information sessions, so watch this space.
If there are things that you’d like to see us do differently or something you’d like us to add to our agenda, please reach out, I am always open to new ideas.
Now is a great time to join a growing and thriving community of like-minded businesses. For more information about how you can become a member contact the Chamber 9791 2292 or admin@bgcci.com.au
