CEO Update

A month has passed since our inaugural Bunbury Geographe Business Excellence Awards, and our memories of a fantastic night are still fresh in our minds. The success of such an event can only be achieved if our business community supports the importance of showcasing their businesses by submitting applications. With 152 nominations received, the four judges worked tirelessly to evaluate each category and ensure that the very best were selected as finalists.

The winners of each category will have the opportunity to apply for the Regional Chamber Awards in Perth in March 2025. The winners include:

- Aboriginal Business – Boola Bidi Dreaming

- Owner Operator – CLP Advertising & Photography Service

- Start-up – Veen Physiotherapy

- Business with 1-5 Employees – Rollform WA

- Business with 6 – 10 Employees – Auto Tech Bunbury

- Business with 11 – 20 Employees – Outdoor World

- Business with 21 + Employees - LGM Industries

The Business of the Year award was accepted by Jodie Hoskins (co-owner) of Rollform WA.

The awards night was just the beginning of an exciting month for us. Our Lunch n Learns continue to offer our members opportunities to expand their knowledge. Corporate partner GHD spoke about sustainability and the transition to a low carbon economy. More information can be found on our news page (click here).

Bunbury Catholic College hosted our monthly Business After Hours event, where we heard from many of our members and parents connected to the school. Principal Michael Pepper shared information about VET pathways, the Southwest Careers Expo, and the Year 10 Business Breakfasts. The Chamber team experienced VR technology and is eager to explore how we can connect our business community with student designs in a Lunch n Learn next year.

This month, the ‘Right to Disconnect’ legislation was passed. More information can be found from CCIWA on our website (click here). Other important updates from the Federal Government include new rules for casual employment, which can be found on our website.

Due to the continued downturn in Lithium prices, Albemarle made the difficult decision to close operations on Trains 3 & 4 and place Train 2 into care and maintenance, leaving only Train 1 in operation. This decision impacted about 300 workers, and we used our networks to organize an Employer Connect event in partnership with the Chamber of Minerals & Energy to connect impacted workers directly with job opportunities. The Greater Bunbury Rotary Club volunteered to serve food at the event.

Our Women in Business portfolio will host its next event at Chamber House, with guest speaker Kate Baker from Monadelphous and South West Women in Mining sharing her leadership journey.  Click here to learn more and book tickets.

Our next Lunch n Learn will be hosted by adapt and will focus on clarity in business, building leadership beyond oneself, designing strategies for success, and developing high-performance teams. Click here to learn more and book tickets.
