MEDIA RELEASE | EVENT CONNECTS SKILLED WORKFORCE WITH REGION’S MAJOR EMPLOYERS

More than 150 skilled workers attended a job networking forum at the Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday (4 March), aimed at connecting prospective employees with some of the region’s biggest employers.

Attendees browsed through 16 employer stalls, talking directly to companies about employment opportunities, in an initiative led by the BGCCI, the Bunbury Geographe Economic Alliance (BGEA) and Workforce Australia.

BGGCI Chief Executive Officer Sean McKeown said the three organisations wanted to provide a forum for the former Albemarle employees following the closure of the Kemerton Lithium operations, as well as for other skilled personnel in the region to connect with employers.

“This event aimed to immediately connect an experienced and available workforce with some of our biggest employers, while assisting local companies to address the ongoing issue of skilled labour shortages, which is one of the biggest challenges for businesses in the region,” Mr McKeown said.

“People were able to talk directly to the human resources contacts to understand current and upcoming opportunities and at the same time, employers had direct access to a talent pool of skilled people.

“We are delighted that so many people came along and took advantage of the day.”

Businesses who attended included Alcoa, South32 Worsley Alumina, Wespine, LGM Industries, Talison Lithium, RCR Mining Technologies, TLEA, Covalent Lithium, Piacentini & Son, Laminex, RCR Mining Technologies, Perkins Builders, OFI, BHP, Koormal Group, Maali, and MGM.
