Words from the CEO | September

CEO Update

I know we all say it, but how have we reached the end of September already! No matter how well we plan, new opportunities are always presenting themselves. We are grateful to be considered a strong collaborator on projects that are meaningful and make a difference to our membership. One such area is board training for tomorrow’s leaders in ‘Inclusive Leadership’. Volunteer Southwest and Advocacy WA have been granted funding to present free governance training in the South West, and we here at the Chamber are supporting this inclusive leadership training.

Training for Boards of Management

  • For organisations seeking new members with lived experience of disability, to support their commitment to inclusion.Trains organisations in disability accessibility and introduces them to prospective members who can contribute to their organisation at a strategic level.

Training for People with Disability

  • For those living with a disability who are passionate about inclusion and want to share their expertise on the board of a local organisation.
  • Trains prospective board members and supports them in making new social and career connections while improving their professional skills.

The Innovation Industries of the Future (IIF) event, hosted by the Western Australian Government and South West Development Commission in partnership with the City of Bunbury, will be a two-day exploration of significant global trends shaping economic growth and job creation. The insights shared will include thought-provoking panel discussions. You can find the program here and IIF website here.

The evening event on Tuesday, 5 November, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the beautiful Dolphin Discovery Centre, will showcase the South West region’s premium food and wine for international business-to-business networking. Click here to register.

Our Lunch 'n' Learn sessions continue to be very popular. The next session in October will be run by Kim Narkle, Aboriginal Engagement Officer from Jobs & Skills Centre. Kim will be providing an Aboriginal employee toolkit to assist businesses in employing Aboriginal people and retaining them within your organisation. Click here to register.

For the first time, we are hosting an International Men’s Day event. Planned for Friday, 15 November, it will feature a half-day ‘shotgun’ (golfers will know what this means) at the Mercure Sanctuary Resort, starting at 12:30 pm. We are working with David Barton and his team at Man Talk to help promote the day and men’s health.

As we move into the final months of the year, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and the chance to continue working alongside our valued partners and members. Whether it's supporting tomorrow's leaders through board training, showcasing the South West's vibrant industries, or creating spaces for important conversations like our International Men’s Day event, we remain committed to fostering connection, knowledge, and advocacy opportunities.

We look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events. Thank you to our members and greater business community for your ongoing support.

Julie
